Summer Camp 2025 at the School Life and Education Museum

Summer is here, and it’s time to embark on an unforgettable “Journey to the City,” reunite with our friends, and spend our time creatively! This summer, a group of children will enjoy memorable holidays in the heart of Athens, through play and participation in creative and experiential activities, always prioritizing everyone’s health and safety.

Through music and movement games, visits to nearby museums and parks, crafts, theatrical play, magical experiments, STEM, technology, cooking, and much more, we’ll take a refreshing dive into the world of knowledge, art, and creativity.

Starting from the School Life and Education Museum, children will go on tours, enjoy creative guided visits to neighboring Museums and Art Spaces, explore the neighborhoods of Plaka, have picnics on Filopappou Hill, paint in hidden corners of the National Garden, go on environmental excursions, and learn traditional games.

At the Museum, children will engage in creative time with activities specially designed to maintain necessary health precautions: arts and crafts, music and movement activities, theatrical play, STEM, creative movement, screenings, storytelling, and educational games.

Each week-long session is unique (with a special theme) and does not repeat. All sessions include visual arts and musical-theatrical activities, visits to nearby museums, and nature outings.

Information & Terms of Participation

• Provision of adequate hygiene supplies (e.g. soap, paper towels, sanitizer, etc.) in activity rooms and restrooms.

• Each child receives a personal set of stationery (markers, pencils, etc.) and materials for art workshops.

• Every session is unique and non-repetitive, all include creative arts, music-theatre activities, museum visits, and nature excursions.

• Session dates: 16/6–20/6, 23/6–27/6, 30/6–4/7, 7/7–11/7, 14/7–18/7, 21/7–25/7, 28/7–1/8, 4/8–8/8, 25/8–29/8, 1/9–5/9

• Each session lasts five (5) working days (Monday to Friday) from 8:30 to 13:00 or 8:30 to 16:00

• The program is designed for children aged 5 to 10 years old.

• Meals (morning snack and lunch) are not included and must be brought from home in appropriate containers.

• Children should bring: a backpack, water bottle, hat, comfortable clothes, sunscreen, and a protective mask.

• Participation cost: €120 for the 8:30–13:00 program and €150 for the 8:30–16:00 program.

• A 10% discount applies for siblings and for enrollment in more than one session.

• Daily participation cost is €35.

• Special package offers are available for organized children’s groups and corporate clubs.

• Responsible staff ensure the smooth running of the program and children’s safety.

• The program takes place at the Museum building in Plaka (17 Agias Filotheis Street).

• It includes walks to archaeological sites and cultural venues in the surrounding area, with experiential and creative activities.

• Make-up days due to illness/absence are arranged upon consultation and availability. No refunds are issued.

Training: “Memories that Shape Paths – Education for Inclusion through Cultural Heritage”

School Life and Education Museum is organizing a two-day training workshop as part of the European Erasmus+ project ALZ-Q: Training facilitators in small local heritage institutions to make them safe places for adults with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease (2024-1-NL01-KA220-ADU-000253660).

The training workshop, titled “Memories that Shape Paths,” focuses on the role of cultural heritage, museums, and creative practices as tools for empowerment, inclusion, and support for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.

6th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Educational Play and Art in Education and Culture

The School Life and Education Museum (EKEDISY), the Laboratory for Research on Early Childhood Psychopedagogy of the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education, University of West Attica, the Department of Educational Studies of the University of Nicosia, the Panhellenic Association of Private Nursery Schools (PA.S.I.P.S.), and the Greek Cultural Institute are co-organizing the 6th International Conference titled “Educational Play and Art in Education and Culture”, to be held online on November 1–2, 2025.

The role of play in the modern learning environment is undeniably significant. Although its importance is acknowledged in formal education, its acceptance tends to decrease progressively from preschool to primary and secondary education. On the other hand, art plays a fundamental role in promoting education and culture, creating a powerful link between the two.

The aim of the Conference is to explore the potential of educational play and art in both formal and non-formal education. The program will include keynote speeches by leading experts, presentations, and interactive workshops.
The Conference is addressed to education professionals, teachers of all specialties and levels, museologists, museum educators, librarians, students, researchers, non-formal education facilitators, and anyone interested in the Conference themes.

ALZ-Q: Training facilitators in small local heritage institutions to make them safe places for adults with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease

A European Erasmus+ Initiative for Education, Empowerment, and Inclusion

The School Life and Education Museum proudly participates in the European cooperation project ALZ-Q: Training facilitators in small local heritage institutions to make them safe places for adults with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease (2024-1-NL01-KA220-ADU-000253660).
Funded by the Erasmus+ programme, ALZ-Q brings together partners from across Europe to explore how cultural heritage and education can play a vital role in improving the lives of individuals living with early-onset dementia.

Project Objectives

The core aim of ALZ-Q is to empower staff and educators in small heritage institutions to:

• Create dementia-friendly environments within museums and cultural spaces.

• Use cultural heritage as a tool to enhance memory, dignity, and emotional well-being.

• Promote inclusion and accessibility for adults with early-onset Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

• Develop training and educational resources tailored to the needs of cultural facilitators.

This innovative initiative aligns with our mission at the School Life and Education Museum: to ensure that culture and education are accessible to all members of society, regardless of age or cognitive ability.

• Pilot workshops and seminars (like the one hosted by the School Life and Education Museum in May 2025).

• Co-creation sessions involving people with dementia and their caregivers.

• Dissemination events and open-access publication of training materials.

The ALZ-Q project will produce several tangible results:

1. Training Manual for Facilitators – with practical tools, case studies, and methods for designing inclusive programs.

Outdoor Education for Museums and Cultural Organizations (OEMCO) is a project that is funded by the European Union Erasmus+ programme (Grant Agreement Number 2021-2-EL01-KA210-ADU-000050334). The general objective of the project is to provide to the participants and stakeholders with basic knowledge, skills and tools for planning, organizing and implementing outdoor education activities / programs by relevant bodies (educational and cultural institutions, museums, etc.), in order to improve the availability of learning opportunities for students, educators and adults.

The project’s specific objectives are:
• To strengthen the participants and stakeholders theoretical background on the role, objectives and benefits of outdoor education.
• To provide participants and stakeholders with first-hand knowledge, ideas, best practices and practical experience as well as a range of group exercises and experiential activities related to outdoor education on school and museum sites, in local parks, in monuments, in urban settings etc.
• To cultivate participants and stakeholders social awareness in order to work cooperatively in a wide range of situations outside the walls of the traditional museum and educational environment – to develop methodologies based on exploratory learning, experiential approach, learning by doing principles, play-centered learning.
• To bring the participants and stakeholders in contact with various practices and activities of outdoor education implemented by cultural institutions in different environments and for different purposes and cognitive objects.
• The participants and stakeholders to acquire skills and tools suitable for the design and implementation of museum-educational programs based on the principles of outdoor education.
• The participants and stakeholders to share knowledge / experiences / best practices about outdoor education with their European colleagues and build a network with those who work in the outdoor education field around Europe.
